Indonesian Police Persecute Elinatan Basini Bruised and Arrested 21 People

Mr. Elinatan Basini was beaten so badly that he suffered bruises on his face and swelling on his legs, and several other limbs experienced pain. He is general secretary of the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) for the Sentani Region, which also led a peaceful demonstration yesterday (12/07), in support of ULMWP's (West Papua) full membership in the MSG.

He was one of the 6 people who were arrested yesterday during a peaceful demonstration in Sentani. He was also among the 10 people who were arrested on July 11, 2023 while distributing leaflets for a peaceful demonstration on the street.

During yesterday's peaceful demonstration (12/07), 15 other people who took to the streets in the Abepura and Expo areas were also arrested by the police.

The total arrests in yesterday's peaceful demonstration in Jayapura were 21 people. Hundreds of other demonstrators were forcibly dispersed by the Indonesian Police and Army.
